About Us

World Environment Day

World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 marking the first day of the Stockholm conference on the human environment. Environment day is also called Eco Day or WED.

The dictionary defines the ‘environment’ as the conditions in which we live and work. We show our concern for our personal belongings, we care about them, nurture them. But why don’t we do the same for our environment, mother nature breathes too? It’s high time we should take care of our environment. We have been exploiting nature for thousands of years. It was well said by Mahatma Gandhi, “the earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed.” According to a report by National Geographic, 75% of earth’s land is degraded and a new report was that environmental damage threatens the well-being of 3.2 billion.

So here is a question, what is the main problem and who is the ultimate troublemaker? We human beings are the ultimate troublemakers and we are the problem-solvers too, only if we work together for a better future stressing on the sustainable goals.

Take care of the small things and the big things will take care of themselves. Do you ever think about what happens to the waste that we produce daily? It all goes to the landfills which are located in the city or near a slum area which adversely affects the environment and life of many people. It also releases toxic liquid called leachate which gets mixed with water and even pollutes the groundwater. The fundamental principle of waste management talks about Reuse Reduce and Recycle. Most simply separating wet and dry waste can result in big changes because.

We need to return the environment that we take from her, that too in a beautiful manner. Simply using biogas by housing societies, companies, hostels or schools can reduce the amount of waste. 500 kg of green waste if processed can give us 20 kg of Methane and 40 to 50 kg of manure.

The theme of 2020 environment day is “TIME FOR NATURE”.

Happy World Environment Day!

Nature never did betray
The heart that loved her.

William Wordsworth

It’s our home, it gives us food and shelter, let’s take out some time for her and make the earth a better place for the coming generation. Let’s conserve the rich biodiversity. Taking away one component of it can result in the fall of the entire ecosystem. Deep down coral reefs are being affected by climate changes. Coral reefs provide breeding ground, shelter and much more to aquatic animals. Environmental Pollution has adversely affected the coral reef. Pollution, fishing and over-harvesting of Coral and global warming mark questions on the survival of coral reefs.

For a better future, we need to sustain natural resources for our upcoming generation and also keep in mind that earth belongs not only to human beings but also to the other organisms. We co-exist with millions of other species who need to be cared for and conserved.

Human interaction with nature has raised multiple points of concern related to the ailing condition of the earth. If our developmental goals are not sustainable, the coming generation might have to pay the penalty. The First Brandt Report raised the question — “Are we to leave our successors a scorched planet of advancing deserts, impoverished landscapes and the ailing environment?”

We fight for our fundamental rights, gender rights, we fight for equality and justice, we fight for a better future for education, women empowerment and currently fighting against the coronavirus. But what will be the use of these right if our existence becomes a question mark and our environment becomes endangered? The future is in our hands and choice is ours. But “Nature never did betray the heart that loved her.”
